DHL Gatwick LR

The Hub's congratulations go to DHL Supply Chain, which has marked the first anniversary of its Gatwick Logistics Consolidation Centre by winning the airport’s 2014 Supplier Value Award.

The 47,000ft² consolidation centre, which provides an inbound logistics service for airport concessionaires including storage, security screening and final mile delivery, is used by 87% of concessionaires. It has helped lead to a 5% increase in passenger satisfaction in the airport, says DHL, as well as contributing to reduced carbon emissions and improved health and safety at the site.

DHL, which beat more than 650 other organisations to scoop the award, began operating the consolidation service, branded ‘Gatwick Direct’, in November last year after winning a 10-year contract to manage inbound deliveries.

Simon Duggan, senior logistics manager at Gatwick, said he was “delighted” the DHL team had won the award.

“In a relatively short period of time, Gatwick and DHL have improved efficiency and displayed effective and collaborative use of gain share mechanisms and proactively pursued future opportunities to benefit both Gatwick and DHL,” he commented.

“Understanding our customer’s customer has ensured we’ve delivered on our promises at Gatwick,” added Paul Richardson, MD specialist services at DHL Supply Chain. “Driving and delivering change within the airline and airport communities remains a key focus for DHL.”
