The indoor exhibition area at next week’s Quiet Cities global summit will feature examples of a wide range of products that enable urban and out-of-hours deliveries to be made.
IMS will be showcasing examples of its VSE electro hydraulic trailer steering system, which allows operators to make deliveries in urban areas where manoeuvrability is an issue. It hopes to attract engineers and those in procurement roles to its stand.
Fleet sales manager Ben McEvoy said: “[The] biggest potential comes from the ability to get a larger truck/trailer combination into urban environments where a smaller combination or rigid vehicle [was] previously used, therefore reducing the number of loads needed to go into any one place, so generating less noise [and] CO2.”
Jimmy Beam Downlights will be telling attendees about its innovative lighting system (pictured right), which can be fitted to HGVs to provide additional visibility of any cyclists or pedestrians within close proximity of the vehicle. The lighting system, which was shortlisted for the Innovation award at this year’s MT Awards, also highlights the vehicle’s exact position to vulnerable road users.
Owner Jim Thompson said he hopes the system will be of particular interest to transport managers and local authorities, and he will be telling visitors to its stand about the operational and safety benefits of fitting the lights to their vehicles.
Returnable goods carrier supplier K Hartwall will be telling retailers and
logistics companies about its low noise goods carriers. It will be displaying Piek-certified roll cages (pictured left) and dollies, explaining their design features that specifically minimise noise.
“We want to identify the most up to date issues surrounding low noise in urban environments, and possible changes to future legislation, and make sure we really understand what solutions the market is looking for,” K Hartwall’s sales manager, UK & Ireland, Paul Straw, said. “Secondly we are hoping to share and demonstrate the innovations that we have available today that are helping our customers across Europe minimise the noise impact of their deliveries.”
