CM Downton delivered the 888,246 ceramic poppies on display at the Tower of London, each representing a British or Commonwealth soldier who died in the Great War.
Since 1 August, CM Downton has been delivering poppies to the Tower of London on behalf of manufacturer Johnson Tiles. It has been collecting three to four loads per week from its Stoke-on-Trent plant, transporting them to Derby where they were sprayed and glazed and delivering full-loads to the Tower of London.
The Gloucestershire operator delivered the final load of poppies, which form part of the ‘Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red’ display, on Wednesday. The final poppy will be added to the display on Armistice Day on Tuesday 11 November.
Director Kate Downton said: “This display has captured the imagination of everyone in the country and is a truly remarkable and fitting tribute to the heroes whose lives were tragically lost in the Great War. To have played even a small part in it makes all of us at Downton very proud.”
