Amazon has announced plans to create 1,000 new permanent roles at its network of eight UK fulfilment centres in the “coming months”.

In the past two years, the online retail giant has recruited more than 2,000 new employees, with this latest cohort creating a 7,000-strong workforce.

John Tagawa, director of UK operations at Amazon, said: “As we see greater demand, we are able to rapidly grow our talented team across the UK.”

Amazon revealed it has invested more than £1bn in its UK operation to date, which includes the creation of its eight fulfilment centres in Doncaster, Dunfermline, Gourock, Hemel Hempstead, Milton Keynes, Peterborough, Rugeley and Swansea Bay.

In June, it also announced its intention to double the capacity of its Rugeley DC with the addition of a mezzanine floor within its 700,000ft² warehouse (pictured).
