Corporate Solutions Logistics (CSL) has added 44 trucks and trailers to its fleet to support growing volumes on its contract with supermarket chain Lidl.

The Solihull-based operator has added 44 Montracon refrigerated trailers and 44 Euro-5 tractor units- a mixture of Daf, MAN and Mercedes- to its predominantly Daf fleet. This follows an order of a dozen Daf XF units earlier this year that were also put to work on the Lidl contract.

The trucks, all Euro-5, have been taken under derogation and are all additions to its fleet.

CSL sales director Mark Ponsonby told MT: “We took on a mixed-marque fleet because we wanted to compare how they ran on fuel. We are very keen on Daf as they are British-built and we are very passionate about buying British.”

He said work on the contract, which involves loading out of Lidl’s DCs and delivering to supermarkets  across the south east of England seven days a week, has grown. It is now delivering from three DCs in Enfield, Lutterworth and Belvedere, Kent.

Ponsonby added that, due to undertaking much of its work in London, CSL has fitted TfL-approved front, side and rear cameras to its new vehicles to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists. It has also fitted TomTom HGV sat navs to all of the trucks.
