A fire that destroyed stock at Asos’s Norbert Dentressangle-operated DC in Barnsley is currently under investigation by police.

The fire broke out on Friday evening (20 June) at the DC and forced the online retailer to stop taking orders until 2am this morning whilst the warehouse was cleaned up. It estimated that 20% of its stock had been damaged by the fire and sprinklers.

A spokeswoman for Norbert Dentressangle, which won the £100m three-year deal to manage the DC last year, declined to comment.

In a statement, Asos said police are treating the incident as deliberate.

In 2005 Asos’s former warehouse in Hemel Hempstead was damaged by explosions at the Buncefield fuel depot.
