Howard Tenens has won a five-year contract extension from Costa Coffee and will continue to manage the ingredient supply chain for its Costa Express and Costa ‘Proud to Serve’ businesses.

The operator won its initial contract with the coffee chain’s self-service operation, Costa Express, in 2012. This has now been extended to include transport for Costa Proud to Serve coffee outlets, it revealed at Multimodal yesterday (30 April).

It will continue to collect ingredients from the firm’s supplier and deliver items such as coffee beans, napkins and syrup to coffee shops and self-service outlets across the UK.

Over the first 12 months of the initial contract, Howard Tenens consolidated storage for Costa from nine sites into one, reduced the number of delivery refusals by half, and reduced Costa’s annual logistics cost by 30%.

Howard Tenens’ commercial and marketing director Jamie Hartles said: “We are proud and extremely pleased to have secured the additional Costa Proud to Serve business and look forward to continuing to develop our relationship with Costa, ensuring that our partnership goes from strength to strength.”

Costa Express’ supply chain manager Chris Clowes said the additional Proud to Serve contract will help improve efficiency in its supply chain.
