UK Mail has said that it saw a 6% increase in turnover in the first quarter of the year, with a strong performance across its parcels and mail divisions as well as an increase in its UK Pallets division.

Parcels saw a 15% increase in volumes in the three months ending 31 March, compared to the same quarter last year. UK Mail also reported that it mail business achieved “good growth” in a trading statement to the City today.

The company also said that revenues in its pallets business (UK Pallets) also showed an increase as “the business continues with its recovery plan”. Last year it added Neill & Brown Global Logistics and Hellman Worldwide Logistics as partners to the network.

Chief executive Guy Buswell (pictured) said: "Our business has continued to perform well with good volume growth in both our parcels and mail businesses, showing the strength of our customer offering. Meanwhile our new one hour delivery window project has been implemented and is being rolled out across our network, enabling us to provide our customers with industry leading services in this key area.”

He added that its new central sortation hub near Coventry is now under construction, and is on track to be operational in mid 2015. UK Mail has been forced to move its national hub from its current location in Birmingham as it lies on the governments’ proposed route for HS2.

“As expected,” Buswell added, “the coming year will be something of a transitional period for the group, reflecting the current programme of investment, but our outlook for our trading performance is unchanged."
