Royal Mail has won a two-year contract to collect and deliver bulk mail for councils across London.

The contract was awarded following a competitive tender in which 14 London councils collaborated to reduce delivery costs, using the Government Procurement Service's bidding process.

The operator will collect and deliver council documents, including polling cards and council tax letters. Some councils will also have their mail printed by the operator as part of the contract.

It will cover deliveries across 14 boroughs; Barnet, Brent, Camden, Ealing, Enfield, Harrow, Hackney, Havering, Haringey, Hounslow, Islington, Newham, Redbridge and Tower Hamlets.

Rachel Winham, head of elections and local government for Royal Mail, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this significant contract.

“This contract is great news for Royal Mail, and for our employees. We look forward to working closely with the councils over the course of the contract and providing them with an excellent service.”

The operator has been delivering on behalf of the councils individually before.
