Morrisons has rolled out its online food offering into Yorkshire and plans deliveries to more locations this year.

The supermarket expanded its home delivery reach into Yorkshire in February, following its launch in Warwickshire at the beginning of the year. It also plans to offer deliveries in more areas in 2014, which are yet to be disclosed.

In its preliminary results for the year ended 2 February 2014, the own-account operator also revealed plans to trial a click and collect model this year.

The online offer was launched in January following its tie-up with Ocado and sees the supermarket use Ocado’s warehouse space and IT. Morrisons will make home deliveries using its own fleet.

In his business strategy and review statement, Morrisons chief executive Dalton Phillips said: “Our online operation will help us to serve more customers than ever before, and will enable us to access areas in which we are under-represented today, such as London and the South East.”

It also hopes to increase capacity at its convenience distribution centres (CDCs), which serve its ‘M Local’ convenience stores.

Last year Wincanton won a contract with Morrisons to manage the logistics for its convenience stores in the North West and the South.

“Our growth in 2014/15 will seek to optimise the capacity of our existing CDCs,” the supermarket added.

Last year, Morrisons opened a 100,000ft² CDC in Feltham, west London and a 150,000ft² site in Bury, Lancashire, both of which are operated by Wincanton.

In its interim management statement earlier this week, Ocado chief executive Tim Steiner said the company was “pleased with the operational progress of Morrisons.com”.
