Amazon has begun offering Sunday deliveries through its Amazon Logistics arm, following a successful trial before Christmas.

The service was trialled in London during the four peak weeks in December, but the online retail giant now plans to introduce seven day deliveries permanently in London, Birmingham, Milton Keynes, Oxford, Nottingham, Manchester and Leeds.

The Amazon Logistics service operates its own regional hubs, but works with third party delivery partners to deliver parcels to customers.

Last year it unveiled plans to open four more depots in 2014, but declined to comment on their exact locations.

UK director for Amazon Logistics, Jamie Stephenson, said: “We know customers really appreciated the immediacy of Sunday deliveries during the Christmas period and we were able to deliver thousands more parcels this way in those four weeks.”

Sunday deliveries will be offered at no additional charge to customers who sign up for its Amazon Prime service, which offers unlimited one-day delivery for an annual fee.
