This year, 3PLs have won millions in new and renewed business from retailers, manufacturers and service providers in the UK and beyond; some more business than others. Motortransport.co.uk takes a look at 2013’s top contract wins.

Norbert Dentressangle wins £100m ASOS contract

ND’s ASOS win in the summer was not only one of the largest in value, but also came with large responsibilities. The operator took the three-year contract from Unipart Logistics, as well as some 1,200 staff. ND is also managing 1.1m ft² global DC in Barnsley, shipping products to customers in 241 different countries.

DHL wins £100m Panasonic contract

The electrical goods manufacturer chose DHL to manage its transport and warehousing in the UK. DHL said the high value contract was put together in a “very short timescale” and was one of the first of many big contract wins for the UK’s largest fleet operator this year.

STOBART biomass

Stobart Group wins £75m biomass contract

In July, Evermore Renewable Energy Plant chose Stobart’s Biomass division to supply it with fuel for the next 15 years. The operator estimates that this will generate £75m in revenue over the entire contract, adding to what chief executive Andrew Tinkler described as an “extensive pipeline of opportunities” for the division.

 

 

DHL wins Morrisons fuel contract renewal

DHL took on a fleet of 256 brand new Euro-5 tankers this year after beating its rivals in a competitive tender for the renewed fuel transport contract. The deal will cover deliveries to 335 Morrisons forecourts and RDCs for six years.

Allport to manage The White Company’s global supply chain

In October, Allport Cargo Services was chosen to manage The White Company’s global air, sea and overland transport. It will use the operator’s purchase management system.

DHL wins 10-year Gatwick Airport deal

In a deal worth in excess of £24m, DHL has begun managing inbound goods for the airport’s 150 partners and retailers. Some 44 full-time jobs have been created and the contract will be run through the operator’s new logistics and consolidation facility.

Hermes secures Next contract until 2022

Hermes will continue to provide home deliveries to the retailer’s customers until 2022, including next day delivery. The two parties have worked together since 1988, and Hermes believes the contract renewal shows Next’s “high level of confidence” in the company.

Jigsaw Indesit contract

Jigsaw wins £15m contract extension with Indesit

Haulier consortium Jigsaw will now hold full responsibility for the white goods manufacturer’s bulk transport movements. The multi-million pound deal will also cover same day trunking from Indesit’s national DC in Rutland, Northamptonshire to 10 satellite depots.

 

DHL wins £14m Travis Perkins deal

In another multi-million pound deal for DHL, the operator will take on 160,000 movements for the builder’s merchant per year, from its Northamptonshire DC. The operator is confident that it can “streamline” Travis Perkins’ transport operations, building on their 20-year relationship.

TNT Post to deliver over 950m more items

April saw TNT Post win a number of new and renewed contracts with customers including Cotton Traders, Matalan, BT and Santander, seeing its mail bag grow by approximately 985m more items a year. Chief executive Nick Wells said the firm was “proud to have such a strong client roster”.
