Julian Maturi, the MD of Palletways when it was sold to its current owner James Wilson in 2004, has returned to the business as an executive director.

Ex-Wincanton man Maturi led a management buyout of Palletways backed by 3i in 2002.

He then sold the business to Wilson and Phoenix Equity Partners, marking the start of the network’s rapid European expansion.

Julian Maturi has returned to Palletways

Although Maturi had remained in touch with Palletways, his return on a part-time basis represents a significant scaling up of his involvement in the business.

A spokesman for the network said: “Maturi was appointed an executive director of the UK business earlier this year.

“His appointment forms part of a wider group strategy to support the management teams across the Palletways European network, which now covers 13 countries and includes 12 hub facilities and 300 plus depots.”

Maturi added: “Palletways UK has continued to go from strength to strength as it has continued to develop its offering, including the launch of new European services and ongoing investment in leading edge technologies to enhance the customer experience. I am looking forward to supporting the business going forward.”

Similar appointments have been made in Spain, Italy and Germany.
