UPS expects minimal disruption from today’s (22 November) strike at its Camden depot in London, and remains confident an agreement can be reached with Unite.

Unite members at the depot voted for strike action earlier this month, with the union claiming that the 120 drivers and loaders at the operator’s Camden depot are being forced to handle unreasonable workloads.

Although both sides met on Wednesday (20 November) in an attempt to avoid industrial action, the attempt was unsuccessful.

A UPS spokeswoman told Motortransport.co.uk: “UPS can confirm that Unite is staging industrial action for one day at UPS’s facility in Camden on 22 November, from 00:01-23:59.

“Contingency plans are in place, the facility is fully operational and we are confident that any disruption to our service will be minimal."

Unite has warned that further strike action remains an option if a compromise is not reached.

Unite regional officer Onay Kasab said: “The company made an offer yesterday [Wednesday] that failed to address our members’ deep seated grievances and it was rejected.  As a result, there will be a 24 hour strike Friday that will hit UPS parcel deliveries in central and west London.”

UPS confirmed discussions with the union were continuing, and added that it remained confident a mutually satisfactory agreement would be reached.
