The Canute Group has appointed a new operations director, Gary Sharp, with a remit to make the transport and warehousing divisions of the business more efficient.

Sharp, who previously worked as divisional director at Bibby Distribution, will initially focus on creating greater financial awareness and ownership of budgets throughout Canute’s 12 regional warehouses.

He will also highlight the importance of profit and loss forecasting to individual managers.

“One of the first suggestions I made upon appointment was to pencil in a weekly conference call with all regional managers,” he said.

“This communication is vital for managers to have a greater understanding of budgets and finances, but more than this it highlights where we can integrate operations to ensure maximum efficiency not only for regional depots but for Canute as a whole.”

Canute’s latest set of results filed at Companies House for the year ended 31 July 2012 show the business had turnover of £81.7m and made a pre-tax profit of £866,000.
