City Link has opened a new depot in Southampton to handle increased demand for parcel collection and delivery in the area.

The parcel carrier has invested £500,000 in the new 64,000ft² site on the Fareham Industrial Park, which is 30% larger than its previous depot.

The increased capacity has allowed it to take on some of the GU postcode area, which was formerly covered by other depots. The site is currently handling 4,200 parcels per night, with this number expected to double during the Christmas peak.

Southampton depot manager Marc Carson said: “The move to the new depot offers a tremendous opportunity to enable us to further grow and expand our customer base within the region. Indeed although still early days, the move has already made a substantial difference to our operation.”

The company will operate 56 vehicles out of the site  and the site will have four bays for loading and unloading vehicles indoors.
