Dawsonrentals-Euro-6-MAN-TG-300x200

MAN has unveiled its Euro-6 line up and the first UK order for 100 vehicles from Dawsonrentals.

The truck and trailer rental firm will take an initial 100 MAN TGX 26.440 6x2 and TGX 18.440 4x2 Euro-6 tractors with XLX cabs for its rental fleet. MAN also expects to have Euro-6 demonstrators available for UK operators in October.

John Fletcher, MD of Dawsonrentals truck and trailer, said: "While these new Euro 6 trucks are going to be a very small part of the 10,000 trucks and trailers we operate across the UK, they are very significant. There’s been a lot of doom and gloom about Euro-6, but the fact is, for UK operators, life goes on, and come 1 January next year Euro-6 becomes a fact of life."

Dawsonrentals' fleet remains a predominantly Euro-5 MAN and Mercedes Benz fleet, heavily weighted towards tractor units, though rigids are also available.

Fletcher continued: "MANs are an ideal spec for the majority of the rental work we are involved in, both for hauliers and logistics companies and also sit well with own account operators. A secondary factor, but obviously important to a company like the Dawson Group, is that the MAN specs are also very acceptable to second life operators once we come to sell the trucks through our own used vehicle sales programme."

Des Evans, CEO of MAN Truck & Bus UK, said: "We have had a long-standing relationship with Dawsonrentals , but we take nothing for granted so were genuinely thrilled when they decided to place their order. MAN has been ‘Euro-6 Ready’ for some time now, and the confidence displayed by John Fletcher and his colleagues is most welcome."

MAN was the last major truck maker to unveil its Euro-6 line up, which is very similar to its existing Euro-5 vehicles except for the addition of SCR and a diesel particulate filter. Based on experience with 2,000 Euro-6 vehicles operating on the Continent, Evans said fuel consumption was 3% to 5% better than Euro-5 and R&M rates would be held at the same levels as Euro-5.
