The managing director of John Mitchell (Grangemouth) said an increase in turnover and profit at the company was down to being tough with customers who wouldn’t move on rates. Tilbury, Essex-based haulage, freight forwarding and logistics firm Arcese UK said it is working to address its business performance after suffering a 90% fall in profit over the past two years.
Packaged chemicals logistics specialist HW Coates Holdings has played down a near 20% rise in pre-tax profit last year, describing it as “satisfactory”.
Gist blamed one-off pension costs and retailers’ squeezing of supply chain providers for a 23% fall in pre-tax profit last year, but it still saw turnover rise by 7.2%. For the year ended 31 December 2011 pre-tax profit fell to just under £18.8m, from £24.5m the previous year. However, turnover rose 7.2% year-on-year from £379m to £406m.
