Heywood, Lancashire-based Yearsley Logistics’ planning application for a new 35m high cold store in Peterborough has finally been approved.

The 385,000 ft² site, which Yearsley  wants to construct in the Great Haddon Employment Zone, has been in planning for months but had drawn fire from a number of sources including Hampton Parish Council, which initially challenged Yearsley’s claim that the site would eventually employ 300 and suggested the height of the building would affect sunlight levels for nearby residents.

Hampton Parish Council later objected to a number of design changes affecting the layout of loading bays.

Approval for the site subject to various conditions was granted by Peterborough City Council in a letter dated 20 June in which it said it was “not considered that there would be any unacceptable adverse impact upon neighbour amenity”.

Yearsley MD Harry Yearsley said development at the site was likely to begin in 2014, adding: “This marks the next step in the growth of our network of cold stores in the UK and the growth of our business”.

Nobody from Hampton Parish Council could be reached for comment.
