Palletways member Kay Transport has acquired the business of Truro-based South West Delivery Services, which was headed by MD Mark Adams.

Simon Lowes of Ashtons JWD was appointed liquidator of the firm, which is also a Palletways member, last week (7 June) at a meeting of creditors.

“The majority of the [South West] workforce has been re-employed,” Lowes told Motortransport.co.uk.

Although no one from Kay Transport, which is owned by Gregory Distribution (Holdings), was available to comment, calls to South West Delivery Services’ Truro number were answered as Kay Transport Cornwall.

South West Delivery Services will now be liquidated. It had an O-licence authorising 30 vehicles and 33 trailers.

Palletways

A statement from Palletways said: “South West Deliveries went into voluntary liquidation on Friday 7 June.

"With immediate effect the Palletways business transferred to Kay Transport, which has ensured a seamless transition of operations, customer service and IT systems operating from the South West Deliveries Depot at Grampound Road Truro.

"Kay Transport was already a Palletways member and has a long history of commerce within Cornwall. It has held discussions with all Palletways staff at South West Deliveries to safeguard positions and guarantee continuity of service."

In January Barry Moore Haulage, also a Palletways member covering the TA postcode, transferred to Kay Transport following acquisition by the latter's parent Gregory Distribution (Holdings). It was relocated to Kay Transport's Cullompton base, with five additional collection and delivery vehicles added to service the work.

In April, Kay Transport bought Stalbridge, Dorset-based King Stag (Transport).
