Wincanton were the big winners at the sixth annual FTA Everywoman awards, picking up Director of the Year and the Motor Transport-sponsored Rising Star award at the ceremony at London's Savoy Hotel.

On Thursday 16 May nine awards were given to female role models in the road transport industry, who - the judges said - had demonstrated remarkable success as senior managers, driver and young trailblazers.

Maxine Benson MBE, co-founder of Everywoman, said of the winners: "We are proud to be able to celebrate their achievements and are confident their success will inspire women of all ages, experience and skills-levels to bring their talents to the industry."

Attendees also heard a keynote address by the Secretary of State for Transport, Stephen Hammond MP.

Nikki King, the out-going MD of Isuzu Truck (UK), won the inaugural Spirit of Everywoman award for her commitment to championing the role of women in the industry

Industry Champion Award: Ruth Waring, MD, Labyrinth Logistics Consulting

Innovation and Sustainability Award: Danielle Kozlowska, process improvement manager, Stanley Black & Decker

Team Leader of the Year Award: Marion Roberts, station manager, Network Rail
