Construction products manufacturer British Gypsum has entered into a new contract with DHL for the distribution of plaster products from its site at Barrow upon Soar, Leicestershire. DHL will transport all deliveries from the site to customers across the UK, handling up to 130 full loads a day.
British Gypsum and DHL declined to specify the duration or value of the contract.
Barrow upon Soar plant manager Daniel Easter said the new DHL contract would “help to ensure our logistic operations run as efficiently as possible and that products reach our customers in the highest possible standard”.
The plaster and dry lining supplier has also invested in a new fleet of 58 Don-Bur Teardrop trailers. The trailers, which have already entered service, are all fitted with a bespoke SpanSet blanket load securing system and built on a lightweight chassis to allow for a 28.6 tonne payload.
British Gypsum previously used ratchet straps and plaster edge protectors to secure loads but this was difficult to apply from ground level, while the edge protectors were large, expensive and could easily get lost, said Easter.
A weatherproof canopy has been put in place over the yard at the Barrow upon Soar site to allow load securing to take place away from the loading bays and so avoid disrupting loading rates, he added.
Total investment across canopy, trailers and DHL contract is £1.6m, said the firm.
