Ford has unveiled the new Transit Courier at the Birmingham CV Show, the last of its new Transit models. The small panel van completes a four-vehicle line-up, that the company hopes will boost sales by over 50% by 2016.
Based upon the company’s B-segment platform, the new Transit Courier uses the same global chassis that has spawned the latest Fiesta and new B-Max passenger car models. Measuring 4.16m, the Transit Courier will permit a maximum load volume of 2.3m³ and take a payload of up to 660kg. A full steel bulkhead will be standard, but an optional folding bulkhead with collapsible passenger seat will allow the total load length to extend from 1.62m loadspace maximum to up to 2.59m.
Power will come from Ford’s Dagenham engine plant, with two diesel engines, a 1.5-litre 74hp and a 1.6-litre 93hp diesel, lining up alongside the 1-litre 99hp EcoBoost petrol engine.
Ford will offer the new Courier with its voice activated Ford SYNC connectivity system, as well as a standard cabin that includes a device dock for charging mobile devices and A4 document storage.
Slim headlights, Ford's signature trapezoidal grille and plastic body mouldings will complete the look when the Transit Courier is scheduled to go on sale in Spring 2014.
The recently launched Transit Custom, and the two tonne Transit and Transit Connect - both of which made their UK debuts at the CV Show - join the Transit Courier in the all-new four model Transit van line-up which Ford expect will see as many as 400,000 units sold per year throughout Europe within three years.
