Wincanton’s contract logistics business “is continuing to perform robustly”, it has said, while the company was hit by low volumes in its container business.

The first quarter of 2013 saw the operator open a convenience store DC for Morrisons and a similar operation for Sainsbury’s, both serving the London area, the firm revealed in a trading update today (4 April).

The trading update, which was issued ahead of its results for the year ended 31 March 2013, also revealed that it has also secured new contracts in the retail and FMCG sectors, while its CV repair arm Pullman Fleet Services and document storage division Records Management have won new business in the healthcare and home delivery sector.

Its container business, however, has continued to suffer from low volumes.

Wincanton plans to publish its preliminary results on 13 June.
