High street retailer Next has extended its contract with Hermes extending their relationship to over 30 years.

The four-year contract renewal will see Hermes continue to provide home delivery for Next Directory customers until 2022, a contract it has held since the retailer launched it as a mail order operation in 1988.

The contract also covers deliveries for other services, including Next’s next day delivery service for online orders made before 10pm.

The parcel carrier makes daily collections from Next’s DCs and products are then trunked to Hermes’ regional depots overnight. Orders are then delivered to households across the UK using its courier network.

Hermes chief executive Carole Woodhead said: “By extending this contract until 2022, Next has shown a high level of confidence in our ability to continue to provide an industry leading, multi-channel solution with a range of flexible and affordable delivery options.”

Last month, Hermes added 300 new trailers to its fleet to accommodate the rise in parcel volumes.
