North Lincolnshire-based Clugston Distribution Services has revealed it will expand both its fleet and its workforce with a £1.5m investment in new tractors and trailers this year.

The firm is adding 13 new Renault Premium tractive units to its 75 strong fleet, five of which will work on the fuel delivery operation it set up last year.  Eight of the new trucks will be specified with hydraulic discharge compressors for use in its bulk powder operation.

The investment also includes four powder tankers from Feldbinder, which will be used for bulk ash derivatives and cement work;  a Cobo fuel tanker; and a Lawrence David curtainsider.

Rapid growth

Clugston general manager David Heath said the firm’s fuel delivery activities had grown into a £1.5m turnover business from a standing start last year.

Most of Clugston’s work in this area is for distributors including GB Oils, Peak Oil, Bata and Rix Petroleum, and involves the distribution of heating oil and agricultural oils, though some retail forecourt deliveries are also involved.

The firm is taking on 10 new drivers as a result of the latest move, having already expanded its workforce by 15 in the past 12 months – all but one directly down to the development of the fuel delivery operation.

All the new vehicles will be put on the road between April and June.
