Former TNT Express chairman and chief executive Marie-Christine Lombard has taken up the position of chief executive of Geodis.

Having left the parcel firm last month, Lombard will take up the position vacated by former chief executive Jean-Louis Demeulenaere.

She will oversee the firm's transport and logistics division, Geodis Calberson.

Jean-Louis Demeulenaere is leaving Geodis to “pursue new projects”, according to a company statement issued yesterday.

The appointment comes as of a governance shake-up by the board of directors, which sees former chairman and chief executive Pierre Blayau become chairman.

Guillaume Pepy, chairman of parent company SNCF, said: “Given the crisis in volumes in the goods transport sector, I fully support the changes made by Pierre Blayau.

"The arrival of Marie-Christine Lombard at the SNCF group as chief executive officer of Geodis will strengthen the teams, and ready Geodis for a new phase of profitable growth. She will place all her skills at the service of the transport and logistics division.”

Earlier this week, TNT Express and UPS were issued with the European Commission's objections in regards the latter's takeover of the former.
