Jigsaw

Haulier consortium Jigsaw, which includes MT Haulier of the Year Downton,  Widdowson and Pollock (Scotrans) as members, has been awarded more business from customer Premier Foods.

Jigsaw is now responsible for the management of in-bound freight from Premier Foods factories in the East and South-East of England to its DC in Corby, Northants.

The original contract only covered distribution operations from Premier Foods Skelmersdale, Lancashire, warehouse.

The extra business is being handled using both Jigsaw members and other hauliers. Jigsaw is also managing out-bound operations in coordination with other 3PL providers.

Part of the service includes improving back-haul levels, with in-bound vehicles from factories conducting an out-bound leg to retailers. Using this approach it believes it can reduce road miles by 750,000 per annum.

Jigsaw is not revealing the duration or net value of the contract. It has managed the Corby DC since it opened earlier this year, and has worked with Premier Foods at its Skelmersdale facility since 2004.
