Westfield shopping centre access will be severely restricted this weekend as the athletics programme of London 2012 starts. Organisers are expecting more than 200,000 Olympic spectators and accredited workforce each day, which will make the Stratford area exceptionally busy. UPS has completed its final delivery to the International Broadcast Centre (IBC) and Main Press Centre (MPC) at the Olympic Park. As a result the equipment for 21,000 media representatives is now all delivered, set up and in place for the start of the Games. UPS has added 10 new dual-fuel Mercedes-Benz Axors to its dedicated London 2012 fleet, the first of their kind in the logistic giant’s global 2,500-strong alternative fuel fleet. The long-wheelbase Axors feature a 4×2 drivetrain with a 360hp six-cylinder diesel engine, which has been modified by the Handstaff Group to enable them to run on a dual-fuel blend of biomethane and diesel. Some of London’s black cab drivers are set to demonstrate tomorrow (27 July) at 5pm at Hyde Park Corner in protest against restrictions being imposed on them during the operation of the Olympic Route Network (ORN). FTA has been advised by the Metropolitan Police of the planned demonstration as it is anticipated that there will be disruption in and around the area. Police are talking to the organisers and a proportionate policing plan is in place to manage the situation.
