DHL rigid

The Freight Transport Association (FTA) joined DHL earlier this week on their contract with Iceland to a delivery to central London to discover how prepared the business is for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

On Sunday, DHL moved a lot of its London-based accounts onto night deliveries ahead of the start of the Games.

Hugh Basham, transport strategy and policy director at DHL, tells MT: "We're doing night work for 60-plus customers and plan to continue the out-of-hours activity for three to six weeks for the majority of these accounts."

Across the whole of DHL, about 110 sites are affected by the Games, says Basham.

Basham is hopeful that a "warmer reception" to night-time deliveries by local authorities will be one legacy that comes out of the Games.
