Norbert Dentressangle (ND) has won a £100m, five-year deal with electrical retailer Comet to handle its UK warehousing and distribution. The contract involves ND managing store picking, dispatch and returns management at Comet’s RDCs in Skelmersdale, Lancs and Harlow, Essex. It will also bulk pick product for trans-shipment into Comet’s network of 12 home-delivery platforms. Haulage bosses from six fuel distribution firms are due to resume talks with the Unite union this morning (10 April) following the Easter weekend. Conciliation service Acas is leading the discussions, which kicked off last Wednesday (4 April) and continued for two days, over tanker drivers’ training, safety and employment conditions. A €3.2bn (£2.3bn) acquisition of French transport and logistics giant Norbert Dentressangle by US group XPO Logistics could be just the first in a series of takeovers of European companies the Greenwich, Connecticut firm’s chairman Bradley Jacobs has said.
Norbert Dentressangle said its transport and logistics operations are “well on course” both in terms of growth and profitability, after posting a 19% increase in first-half earnings.
