Norbert Dentressangle wins Comet logistics contract

Norbert Dentressangle (ND) has won a £100m, five-year deal with electrical retailer Comet to handle its UK warehousing and distribution. The contract involves ND managing store picking, dispatch and returns management at Comet’s RDCs in Skelmersdale, Lancs and Harlow, Essex. It will also bulk pick product for trans-shipment into Comet’s network of 12 home-delivery platforms. Who are the richest in road transport?

Operators and logistics firms were poorly represented in the 2012 Sunday Times Rich List, published yesterday. The Barclay brothers, Sir David and Sir Frederick, owners of parcel giant Yodel, remain the richest men involved in road transport with a fortune of £2.2bn. Alastair Salvesen and family are second. Wincanton hopes tanker drivers will end dispute

Wincanton says it “regrets” Unite’s call to members to reject proposals over tanker driver terms and conditions,  and is hopeful that its drivers will recognise the progress made during the past eight days of negotiations between fuel distribution firms and union chiefs by voting to end the long-running dispute. After two days of intensive judging by over 50 leading independent industry figures, the cream of the crop of entries for road transport’s premier awards was selected. The winner of the iPad 2 in motortransport.co.uk’s prize draw was Scott Walker, operations manager at Bunzl Catering Supplies (right). He was presented with his prize at the CV Show 2012 by MT editor Steve Hobson. Jack Richards & Sons has extended and expanded its contract with charcoal firm Big K Products for a further three years. DBL Logistics plans second DC with £1.8m HSBC backing

United Pallet Network member DBL Logistics has secured £1.8m of funding from HSBC to expand the business with a new 50,000ft² Sheffield DC. Due for completion in January 2013, the new site will run in tandem with DBL’s existing 25,000ft² facility in the Sheffield Business Park, and the company hopes additional volumes will boost its annual turnover, currently £3m per year. First Euro-6 Actros to hit the roads

KMS Mallinson Transport will be the first UK operator to run Euro-6 versions of the new Mercedes-Benz Actros. Acas hopeful new proposals will end tanker driver dispute

The threat of a tanker driver strike could now be averted, as the Unite union and fuel distribution companies reach agreement over a new set of proposals. Unite has also been given an extended industrial action mandate of 21 May to allow it time to discuss the new proposals with its 1,200 tanker driver members.
